Attributes and sub-stats
In WayTooManyGames’ preview, each attribute boosts its matching weapon or armor type, and attributes also raise sub-stats including critical hit power and chance, block chance and attack rate. Press CGMagazine described leveling as less traditional and stat-driven than usual, with proficiency rising through use. Press Both can be true: the game uses attributes, but much of your power comes from masteries.
Masteries
- Weapon masteries unlock new moves; for example, upgrading bow efficiency unlocks a charge shot. Press
- Armor masteries exist as their own category: demo 0.20.18 “added new icons for all Armor Masteries.” Wearing a full set of light armor unlocked light-armor perks in the preview. Dev Press
- Generic Power is a mastery name that appears in patch 0.20.17, which fixed it showing the wrong name and description. Dev
- Cooking and crafting are masteries too, which ties progression to the town and estate. Press
Death and respawning
- You respawn after death and enemies respawn as well. Press
- There is a death XP penalty; patch 0.20.17 fixed how it was calculated. Dev
- WayTooManyGames called dying “only a minor set back” in its preview, sending you back to the starting point. Press
- In the story, repeated deaths make an Acolyte’s memories fade, and NPCs can forget earlier conversations. Press
Patch 0.20.17 also fixed “a bug related to leveling up while changing scenes.” If a level-up seemed lost in an older demo build, update the demo. Dev
Difficulty
“The deeper you venture, the stronger your foes will be.” Steam also lists adjustable difficulty among the game’s features. Official
